The Boccius Sketches

Of the many treasures that Susan Appleby has preserved and now shown to other members of the Boccius family, these two sketch books are possibly the most precious.

One book belonged to Charlotte Scott (1767-1755), the wife of Frederick Boccius (1757-1815). The other book is tantalizingly anonymous, but references in Frederic's (1838-1911) will* point to it belonging to Caroline Barth (1813-1864), Gottlieb Boccius's wife. (* He refers to drawings done by his mother 'when she was 'Miss Ba[r]th').

Similarly, the various locations that were sketched by the two different hands might have been in England, or they might have been drawn on continental travels. (If anyone recognises any of the places, we would of course be pleased to hear from you).
